We Want You!

Ex Luce Imperium is now recruiting new members! We don't need an application like some guilds do, but we just want to be sure that you are an active player (you play at least once a week), and you accept our 'Guild Information' status. To join our guild, whisper Adonhai, Leeth or send a letter to Adonhai and you'll be contacted as soon as possible.

Trip to Deadmines

Just a nice picture of me, Silvara and Karmavictim after clearing the whole dungeon. Nice.

A guide to WoW for beginners

So, as I said in guild chat, I decided to write down a few useful tips for WoW beginners. I'm not gonna use the word 'noob' because it's a demeaning word and it actually doesn't say anything. I met lvl 70 players who were worse than 'noobs' because they just didn't want to listen to what the other player in the party were saying. So I think that a 'noob' is someone who doesn't wanna listen nor learn, regardless of their lvl. So if someone calls you 'noob', think that you aren't, because you are readong this guide and so you wanna learn.

A) SOCIAL
1- World of Warcraft is a beautiful game, even though is full of people just trying to piss you off. If someone tries to provoke you, put em on 'Ignore', that means next time they'll try to talk to you, they'll see a nice banner saying 'X is ignoring you'. They won't bother you again.
2- People know that, in WoW, they're anonymous. That will make some tend to be annoying or stupid-acting. Don't pay attention.
3- Don't spam on any chat. People will notice that, especially high lvl people. They will remember your name, and they won't help you. So don't use general chat ( /1)for personal problems, and don't use Trade chat ( /2) for looking for group or any other reason that isn't trade.
4- Don't bother high lvl people keeping asking 'Can you help me? Now? Can you help me? PLzzzz? Can you help me? And now?' This is not gonna work and you'll soon end up in the Ignore List.
5- When you ask for help, compliments don't work. A lvl 70 won't care if you say that he or she is THE BEST, or THE BESTEST in this game, simply because they don't care. If they are lvl 70, they played a lot and they won't focus on conversating with low lvl anyway.
6- If want to talk with someone for more than 2 minutes, don't use general chats. Use, instead, whisper ( /w) or ask them to be in your party.
7- Don't ever invite in a party without before asking if they want to. It's rude and they won't help you. Instead, ask them first, nicely.
8- Need and Greed. This hint shouldn't be in the Social chapter, even though it's one of the most important thing about Social. If you go into an instance/dungeon with a party, you can't Need everything gets rolled. If you Need something, in that case ask 'Can I need?'. If the answer from the other members of the party is yes, go for it. If not, don't do it, unless you wanna get kicked out of the group (it happens all the time).
9- If someone asks you to join them for a dungeon, accept only if you have some time to spend in it. One hour, one hour and a half is the average time, but for a few long dungeons (Gnomeregan, for exemple).
10- Don't leave a party in the middle of a dungeon. That will surely mean that they won't invite you again, cause you will become a 'leaver'.
11- If for some reason you make a mistake and, in a party, you make everyone else die (like when you pull too many monsters at one time), apologize. They will appreciate it, because they know that mistakes are always possible.
12- If you don't know something, don't be afraid to ask, instead of doing something without knowing what you are doing.
13- Don't ask too high lvl to help you in low lvl quests, unless you know them or they are in your guild. Try to do all your quests by yourself or your same lvl players. That will teach you how to play your character.
14- At low lvls (10-20) find some group quests, and find people to group with. If they act nicely, and they play properly, add them in your friends' list. Those will be the people you'll ask for help, from that time on.
15- If you need tips and hints about your class, ask nicely a lvl 70. They don't mind helping, unless they don't have to 'do' something for you. For exemple, if you're not sure about what statistics to improve, ask them, they will tell you. Same with professions and specialization.

B) QUESTS
1- Quests can be grey, green, yellow, orange and red. Grey means that they are too easy for you and they won't give you good xps and rewards. Green means that they are easy for you, and you'll still get nice xps and rewards. Yellow are your lvl (or 2 lvl higher or lower) quests, they will give you good rewards and good xps. Orange quests require 3 or 4 lvl above yours, so they will be hard, but not too hard if you have a player helping you. Red quests are too hard for you, wait untill they become orange or yellow.
2- Since you'll spend a whole lot of time travelling, try to do all the quests in just one area. Places like Ashenvale will give you enough quests to get from lvl 20 to 30, for exemple. Desolace, from 30 to 40 etc. So don't get quests all over the world, or you'll spend most of the time travelling.
3- The best quests are quests involving killings. They will give you almost the double of xps, because each monster will give you points as well. Gathering quests are also good because, even though they could be long and boring, you'll make a lot of xps killing and you'll probably find nice objects.
4- Delivery quests could be good quests. They are usually chain quests, which means they are part of a long series of quests. The reward is usually very good.
5- Don't abandon a quest-line of several quests just because you are bored. They will surely have nice rewards and you will get sure xps without roaming around looking for other quests.
6- Try to do all your yellow and green quests. As soon as you'll be a few lvl above the one required, they will turn grey and they'll give you a sad amount of points.
7- In a dungeon, try to get all your quests done, or that will force you to get to that dungeon over and over again.

C) LEVELING
1- Quests are always the best way of lvling. Although, sometimes it's good to get into a 'yellow' dungeon to get xps. In a dungeon you'll also get a lot of objects to sell, money, and good rewards from dungeon quests. But if you are planning to power-level, don't waste your time in many dungeons.
2- Avoid PvP, unless there's some kind of amazing pvp reward. If you want to do PvP a lot, go to a PvP server. It's usually a waste of time, it will prevent you to get xps while questing.
3- Don't flag (that means you are in PvP mode) in Horde territory. Horde players are usually higher lvl than Alliance players, there's no shame in it. But flagging in Ashenvale or, worse, The Barrens, means dead, and then a wait of 5 mins to get unflagged.
4- Abandon grey quests, they are useless.
5- When you need just one bar to lvl, don't waste your time in looking for another quest. Just kill some monsters (unless you are lvl 60 and higher).
6- When you log off, be sure your character is in a city or a inn. That will give it rest (blue bar), and you'll get double xps from killing monsters.
7- Sometimes lvling could get boring and tiring, but hold on, every 2 lvls you'll get new abilites, which is always nice.
8- Remember that you'll get half xps questing with someone else, so always try to quest by yourself (in dungeon you'll still get full xps).
9- Use your hearthstone, it will save you time and money for flights.
10- Death sucks. I stated the obvious. But in WoW it sucks in a different way. If you die in a mobs-crowded place you'll probably need to use the Spirit Healer, which will put you in Resurrection Sickness. That will decrease your stats for 10 mins and break your equipment (you can still repair it). Sometimes, tho, it could be useful. It will be up to you when to you use the Spirit Healer and when to gather your dead body. Rez Sickness, though, will means 10 mins of doing nothing, because with low statistics you won't get much further.
11- Try to keep WoW in Windowed mode. This will allow you to check Thottbot.com or Wowhead.com anytime you need help for a quest.
12- Always check Thottbot.com to find quests, and where to get them.

D) PROFESSIONS
Choose a professions that suits your class, unless you just want to make money, and remember to get the right gathering profession, unless it doesn't need it. So:
- Skinning + leatherworking = if you have a char that will always use leather (Druid, rogue) this is a nice combination.
- Mining + Engineering = nice if you want to have fun, or if you use guns.
- Mining + Blacksmithing = great at very high lvls, you'll be able to create great armor/weapons. If you don't plan to get to very high lvls, or you'd rather get your stuff in dungeons or quests, skip it.It will require a forge and an anvil, also.
- Mining + Jewelcrafting = nice at high lvl. You'll make good money. Not very useful at low and mid lvls.
- Tailoring = awesome for cloth wearing class (warlock/mage/priest), will sell good stuff at the Auction House and you'll be able to make bags (always requested). Mainly, it doesnt require a gathering profession.
- Enchanting = great profession if you are rich, and you don't mind disenchanting blue and green items. If you're struggling with money, skip it.
- Herbalism + Alchemy = great combination, for anyone. Potions will give you health, armor, underwater breathing, speed, mana... Very useful for mages, with low health and always struggling with low mana.

- First Aid = very useful in general. Requires cloth. If you have tailoring it could be a problem.
- Cooking = skip it. It's boring but gives you a few benefits. It's not worth it, though. Unless you are a skinner and you'll have to kill beast anyway.
- Fishing = nice secondary prof. Fish while you are doing something else, like talking to someone, or waiting for something.

E) SELLING YOUR OBJECTS AND THE AUCTION HOUSE
1- If you have grey or white objects in your bags, dont bother tryin to sell them at the AH. Sell them to any vendor.
2- If you have soulband items, and you don't wanna keep em, sell them to the vendor.
3- If you have green or blue items that you don't need, sell them at the AH. Setting prices is always hard, so before look up on the AH browse engine for other objects like yours, and put your buyout price a little below the competitor price.
4- Some objects like Silk, Wool, Mageweave, Jade, Primals etc. are worth a lot of money, so don't sell them to the vendor.
5- Try to sell the things you made that you don't need at the AH, unless they're white or grey.
6- Nowadays, Most of the players who are not lvl 70 are just alternative characters of other lvl 70s. If you find a blue item, they will spend a lot of money to twink they're low lvl characters. Don't put an awfully high buyout price though, becuase if those lvl 70s are not interested in them, low lvls might want them.
7- Set the buyout price considering the lvl required. The higher the lvl required (so the future purchasers), the more you can ask, because the higher the lvl, the more money they have.

F) SPECIALIZATIONS
1- Each class has 3 specializations, even called 'trees'. Don't waste your time scattering talent points around. Choose one tree, and go straight to the lvl 50 (41 points needed) talent.
2- Check different lvl 70 talent trees on websites like Wowwiki.com, or on the official Armory. They will help you.
3- Unless there's nothing else you can do, if there's a talent you start, finish it. If it's a 5 points talent, put 5 points in it. So be careful with your choice.
4- Talent trees are made in 5 lvls. Every 5 lvls, you'll be able to get a new talent. So try always to get the new one that, except some rare exceptions, are usually better or more useful than the one you got before. If you can, get those 1 point talents. They cost just, as I said, 1 point, and they will give a whole new passive or active ability.
5- A build is a talent points distribution you can create using a Talent Calculator. You can find it on Wowhead.com or on the official World of Warcraft website. Once you made one, stick to it, but remember to ALWAYS create your own favorite build before wasting your points, or else you'll have to unlearn your talents to create a new one (which is expensive).
6- According to your class and to what you want to do with your character, choose a tree. For exemple, a Shaman who always goes solo, will probably choose Enhancement but, at lvl 70 would choose to become Restoration and become, then, a healer. A warlock will probably choose a Demonology build to lvl, but will probably choose an Affliction build at lvl 70, looking forward to become useful in instances, dungeons and raids.
7- Characters could be bundled in 4 big definitions = healers, tanks, casters, and dotters (warlocks). Choose your favorite and create a build that works. Some classes, like shamans, druids and paladins could be different things, healer, tanks (all 3) and casters (shamans and druids). Choose your favorite but remember, a paladin can heal, a druid can tank, a shaman can cast.

G) DUNGEONS
1- Ask people to join you in a dungeon just if you can find other members, or you'll waste their time looking for others.
2- Remember, dungeons are supposed to be 5 players places. So try to be in a 5 people group, unless the dungeon is 4 or 5 lvls below your lvl, or unless you have a very high lvl player with you.
3- Need what you need, but ask first. If you can, always greed objects being rollled.
4- A dungeon is something you do slowly. So kill some monsters, wait untill mages, warlocks, priests and casters in general get their mana back, then agro the next group of mobs.
5- Don't pull too many mobs or the healer won't be able to heal all the players soon enough to save all the party.
6- Don't hit the seduced/sapped/polymorphed target. Hit the target the tank is beating. To make everything easier, use raid tags (right clicking on the top icon of a mob).
7- As I said earlier, don't leave the dungeon. It's rude and you'll be ignored or not invited again. If you have to, apologize and try to look for a replacement.
8- A good party will be composed by: a tank, a healer, a crowd-control (mage/rogue/priest/affliction warlock and others), a dps and a random. The tank will get all the agro, the haeler will heal him/her, the crowd-control will avoid other mobs to agro, the dps will deal a lot of damages to the target.
8- Don't break sap, polymorph, seduce or mind control. It will make another mob agro the tank.
9- If you can't find a group, or you need other members, use Looking for Group and Looking for More window. But ask before inviting, and check the player's lvl.
10- Before fighting a group of mobs, try to pull them to you, one at a time. In dungeons all (or 99% of them) are elite mobs, which are much tougher than normal mobs.

H) GENERAL HINTS
1- If you don't like your class, check thottbot.com and look up your future abilities. You might lke it, then.
2- Some classes could be considered 'utility' classes. Warlock can give other members of the party soul stones (resurrection), healthsone; Mages will give other players free food and water etc... but, in general, its class has its utility.
3- According to your build choice, do what you have to do while playing with others. If you are a mage, use polymorph, a rogue, use your sap, a demonology warlock, off-tank with your voidwalker or felguard or keep a mob seduced with your succubus. Tank like warriors or protection paladin will tank, thats what they have to do. Druids can tank too, but not as well as warriors or prot palladins.
4- If an Horde player is flagged, and much higher lvl than you, stay away from him. They just wait for you to hit them so you'll be flagged too and they'll be able to kill you. And if an Horde guard hits you, don't hit back unless you are much stronger. Hitting them will flag you.
5- If a player in your party is flagged, healing him/her will get you flagged too.
6- Download a few addons. They will make things easier for you. Cosmos is the most complete one. You'll need to have coordinates to find some mobs (coords provided by addons and found on thottbot.com), or dungeons' maps. Some addons are just for fun, other are more important. It's up to you to decide which one to download.

TERMINOLOGY
DPS = damage per second
DoT = damage over time
Aggro/agro = the threat generated by a character and, if you will, mobs aggression.
Sap = rogue's ability to stun monsters

Coord = Coordinates

Well I guess that's all.
Have fun!
